Taking a Backseat

I have recently come to a very hard decision that I will not be attending the fairs as a seller in the near future. I have been finding things a little overwhelming so have decided to call it a day for the time being.  I will be attending a couple of local fairs just to keep my hand in but not travelling further afield.  Hopefully after this break I will return but for now I've got to focus on other projects.  I have a couple of projects in mind still to do with antique textiles and my passion for them of course so I'm not abandoning the antique/vintage scene altogether, and I will of course still be buying!

I have really enjoyed the fairs that I have attended over the years and the wonderful people I have met.  I will stay in touch with you all via this blog and Facebook so I can still see what's happening.  Hopefully after a break I will return in the future, and I am sure from time to time I will come to the fairs as a customer.
Love

  1. That's a shame Jo, but I know what you mean and have been thinking along the same lines myself - it's such hard work although I do really love it when I'm there! Did you sell the miniature mannequin you had at the Brocante by the way? Debbie xx

    1. Hi Debbie
The mini mannequin didn't sell at the Brocante and in some ways I'm pleased because I was in two minds about it anyway!! The fairs are incredibly hard work aren't they?

    2. They really are - preparing, setting up, selling, getting home, unpacking - it takes me days to recover and makes me think that maybe it's a younger woman's game - not that I'm that old but it honestly makes me feel like I'm about 100!!! Let me know if you decide to sell the mini mannequin as I was very taken and keep thinking about him (her?!). You can contact me through Theo & Bernice (Facebook page). xxx

    1. Looking forward to seeing you on Saturday and hearing about the Puggies. Mine are in disgrace today for peeing in the kitchen because they don't want to go out in the rain!

  3. Hope everything's ok. Completely understand if it's just too much ... I don't think many people realise just what hard work fairs are. Enjoy completing your new projects and have fun buying! M x

  4. I so understand how you feel its blinking hard work and I don't think buyers realise how much work is involved. You have to make the right decision that works for you. I to have been in to minds as to what to do and have just handed my notice into The old Sale Rooms in Wellington its a worry trying to cover my rent each week. We have decided to adopt a greyhound and this will enable me to be home more. I will continue to sell at the fairs though as I love it more than trying to sell in one place. Good luck with everything you still want to achieve and I hope to bump into you again soon, dee xx

  5. Hi Jo
I've only ever done two fairs and am full of admiration for those who regularly sell at fairs as I found it such hard work both physically and mentally. Much easier to sell online but not as profitable, I'm sure. For me, it's putting myself under unnecessary stress and I prefer to go along and buy. I'm sure you have made the right decision for you and nothing is forever if you start to get withdrawal symptoms! Did you ever sell the head/bust that I ummed and aahed about last year at Avington?

  6. Hi Jo,
I do understand, I find fairs really tiring so I think you are right to take a break. Good luck with new exciting ventures, courses and buying! Jane xx

  9. Hi Jo,
I've just read your updated blog post (Was trying to catch up with everyone as things have been a bit difficult at home recently...) - I am sorry to hear that you won't be doing the fairs in the near future. I appreciate how much work is involved - not just on the day itself, but all the run-up finding great items and hand making, pricing etc too...Its easy to question how best to move forward, especially when people seem to have less and less money to spend on frivolous things these days...
I hope we won't lose contact and we will meet on the circuit now and then...
Do what makes you happy if you can...take care,
    Niki xx

  14. Hi Jo

I am sorry to hear this news but sometimes we have to make hard decisions which in the long run will benefit us. You have such wonderful collections and your stalls always look fantastic so I will miss loitering by them but I think a rest from the fairs will be just the thing you need and who knows where it will take you, good things are ahead Jo :)

Will keep up with your blog and hope we do see each other again somewhere!

  15. Hi Jo

So sorry to read that you're giving up for a while. The grapevine did reach me but I don't seem to have any contact details for you ;( Hope to see you somewhere before too long though. What a year of change it is turning out to be for so many people.

    Much love
